Cafayate Road Trip

Feeling the need to explore the ¨circuitos especiales¨ surrounding Salta, we found ourselves a car and a guide and took off towards Cafayate for the day. We had no expectations or knowledge of the area but were more than pleasantly surprised.

We were blown away.

Our first stop is Alermania, a spooky ghost town

Our sturdy Toyota destroyed the roads through the Valles Calchaquies

The beautiful, mineral-rich mountains

Leah now understands what all the Salta fuss is about

Gill among the iron-rich rocks formed by tectonic plates crashing together

Our gaucho driver, Tony, gave us some great geologic information and took some stellar pictures

The northern Argentinean landscapes are so different from their Patagonia counterparts

Inside ¨The Devil´s Throat¨formed by Ice Age glaciers

Posing for a picture against a mind-blowing backdrop

We were lucky enough to try some famous Torrentes at bodega Vasija Secreta

Our spirited tasting coash was very strict on the methods of drinking and pouring wine

For lunch in Cafayate we had a regional organic Torrentes

We were stopped en route by goats crossing the road. Tony knew the herder and stopped for a friendly chit-chat as well

It´s so epic, Gillian just can´t help but wave her hands in the air

Leah in the Amphitheatre, where the acoustics are spectacular

Tony instructed and snapped this little gem

There were too many sites to take pictures of

Gillian contemplating living in the Valles Calchaquies forever

We´re going to miss how much Argentineans fiend for Mate, even in the most precarious situations
